St Marys Square

All the information you need for setting up on St Mary’s Square

Please read the information below very carefully.

  • Arrival time

If you have a food pitch on St Marys Square, we need you to arrive for 8:45am. This is because we place craft pitches across the entrance to the square and we may not be able to give you vehicle access if you arrive later than this.

    Electric supply

If you have told us that you need power, please ensure that you have the correct power converter and covers in case of bad weather. We open the power supply (located inside the bollards) at 9:30am. Our power supply is strictly limited so we request that you don't run any additional appliances other than those that we have been informed of. If the power shorts out because it is overloaded, it can cause a problem for you all (and us!) If you are using extension leads, they MUST be suitable for outdoor use, and it is advisable not to leave them coiled whilst in use. It is your responsibility to ensure that your cables do not cause a trip hazard. Please bring either rubber covers or suitable tape to ensure cables are not left loose.

You must supply your own power convertor, cables and weatherproofing. We do not have spares for you to use on the day.

We regularly have the same conversations with stallholders regarding power convertors, weatherproof cables and overloading the power supply. Please ensure you have understood the information above. If you have questions - PLEASE ASK!

    Cooking with gas

If you are using gas, it must be LPG and have a regulator between the supply and the appliance.

  • Arrival time If you have a craft pitch on St Marys Square, please do not arrive before 09:30am as we cannot allow you access until all the hot food stalls are set up.

For all stall holders on St Mary’s Square
All stall holders on St Marys Square must find a market organiser to show you where your pitch is located. Our staff will be on St Marys Square from 8am.

Space on the square is shared between our craft stall holders and hot food vendors. The stalls here have very specific requirements, we must manage the available pitches carefully to take in to account space for queuing. Please do not begin setting up without being shown to your pitch by a staff member.

It may be necessary to move your gazebo slightly to ensure the space on the square is maximised. Please be prepared to do this as your neighbours arrive.

Securing your gazebo
St Mary’s Square can be windy.

Gazebos must be secured with substantial weights.  We place as many of the gazebos as possible next to solid objects and buildings which gazebos can be anchored to.

You are allowed to use guy ropes to do this as long as the are placed sensibly. Our staff will be on the Square during set-up and will help you to anchor your gazebo appropriately. Guy ropes must not be a trip hazard or placed at a height where a customer could walk into them.

Please bring weights and guy ropes with you on the day. the market organisers do not supply these for you.

You MUST weight and anchor your gazebo prior to setting up your products. During stall inspection, if your gazebo is deemed to be incorrectly weighted and/or anchored, we will insist that this is addressed before you are permitted to trade. If you cannot weight your stall, you will not be allowed to trade.

At the past markets, we have seen gazebo's blowing over, despite being weighted. This is a huge health and safety risk and cannot be allowed to happen again. The smallest gust of wind can cause an incorrectly weighted and secured gazebo to tip over and break.

Please take these directions on weighting extremely seriously. Weighting is so important will not allow you to trade if our instructions are not followed.

This is for yours and your customers safety and the health of your gazebo!
